Portrait of Klaus Bircholdt

Award winning Travel and Reportage photographer Klaus Bircholdt was born in Copenhagen, Denmark in 1951.
Since he finished his M. Sc. in immunology from the University of Copenhagen, his career has developed within Life Science. As International Business Development Manager he worked for national as well as international biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, and travelled extensively to most parts of the globe.
In the beginning of the 80’s he became interested in photography and through his mentor and well known photographer Per Bak Jensen, he was introduced to Ansel Adams Zonesystem, which gave him the nessasary insight in analogue photography. Through several, censored art exhibitions in Denmark, he became known for his work. From the outset of digital photography, he worked for PhaseOne, a Danish company that produces camera backs for professional photographers. As Vice President for Industrial Solutions he worked with some of the major photographers in Europe, which gave him the right transition from analogue to digital photography.
Apart from holding exhibitions, he has worked as freelance photographer for the major Danish newspapers and travel agencies. He has travelled in more than 60 countries, which gave him a greater understanding and respect for people and the diversity of their cultures.
He sells limited edition fine art prints and works as freelance photographer within photo journalism and art photography.
